Captain Turner has been employed with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office since April 1997 as a Deputy Sheriff. During his tenure with the Sheriff’s Office, he has been promoted to the rank of Captain in January 2015. He served as commander of the Criminal Investigations Division from 2015 to 2020. He currently serves as the Commander of the Patrol Division.
His law enforcement career includes service as a patrol deputy, narcotics investigator, criminal investigator, K-9 supervisor, patrol supervisor, and as the Commander of the Shelby County Drug Enforcement Task Force. He has also been assigned to other specialty units that include: Commander of the Special Operations Group, the Commander of the Tactical Response Unit (TRU), and as a member of the Honor Guard.
He holds an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Wallace Community College and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the University of Montevallo. He is a graduate of the University of Louisville, Southern Police Institute’s 118th Administrative Officer Course and the 262nd Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. He also is a graduate of the 2011 Leadership Shelby County class.
