Two Arrests Made in Chelsea Car Break-ins

On March 26, 2020 at approximately 5:49 AM, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call in the area of the Narrows subdivision. The caller reported unknown persons looking through a vehicle parked in the driveway of a residence. Deputies responded to the area, but they were not able to immediately locate any suspects. A short time later, another caller reported two suspicious persons walking down the road who had entered a vehicle in a nearby cul-de-sac. This citizen provided detailed information about the clothing and a vehicle description of these individuals. The vehicle left the neighborhood and was located a short time later wrecked near Benson Plaza in Chelsea. This vehicle was later determined to be stolen from the Sylacauga area. The two suspects then fled the accident scene and ran into the wooded area behind Benson Plaza.

Deputies established a perimeter in the area and waited for the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office helicopter to arrive. With the assistance of other citizens calling 911, deputies were able to identify the location of the suspects inside of the wooded area behind the Yellowleaf subdivision in Chelsea. With resources from the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division, Drug Enforcement Task Force, Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Air Support Unit, as well as the Chelsea Citizens Observer Patrol and local citizens, the two suspects were then apprehended.
