On November 17, 2019, at approximately 6:37 PM, Shelby County 911 received a third party call in reference to an altercation at a residence in the 400 block of Meadow Drive. Deputies responded to the area to investigate the situation and developed information indicating that at least one person was possibly armed with a gun inside the residence, and deputies were unable to make contact with the person. The area near the residence was secured, and members of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office multi-jurisdictional Tactical Response Unit and Crisis Negotiations Unit responded to assist. When deputies entered the residence, they discovered two males deceased inside the residence.
Investigators responded to investigate the circumstances surrounding the deaths, and the preliminary investigation has indicated the deaths are the result of a domestic incident ending in a murder-suicide situation. At this time, there is no reason to believe any additional suspects are at large or posing a risk to the community. The final status of the investigation is pending until all final reports and evidence have been reviewed.
“The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office extends its sympathies to all of the families impacted by this tragic event, and we will work to support them and provide answers during this difficult time. With this in mind, we are honoring their request to withhold the names of the deceased” stated Sheriff John Samaniego. The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank Cahaba Valley Fire and Rescue, Vestavia Hills Fire Department, and Brookhighland Place Apartments for their assistance in this investigation.
