Ride Along Application

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office accepts applications for Ride-Alongs with our patrol division, where riders can experience what it is like to protect and serve in Shelby County. In order to apply, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Resident of Shelby County
  • Employed in Shelby County
  • College student seeking a career in Law Enforcement
  • Current applicant for employment at the Shelby County Sheriff's Office
  • Employed at another Law Enforcement Agency

To apply, download the Ride Along Application and complete all of pages 1 and 2, and the top portion of page 3. Note that page 2 must be signed in front of a notary public for the background check. You can return it in person at 380 McDow Road, Columbiana, AL 35051, or by mail at Shelby County Sheriff's Office Attn: Ride Along Application, PO Box 1095, Columbiana, AL 35051.

Applicants will undergo a background check before being approved to ride with one of our deputies.  The Sheriff or his designee will review all applications and conduct the background checks.  Approval into the ride along program is not guaranteed and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office reserves the right to decline applicants based on findings of the review.
