Judicial Services Unit

The Judicial Services Unit is responsible for all aspects ofsecurity for the Shelby County Courthouse, including the safe and securetransport and temporary confinement of inmates for court proceedings. This unit is staffed by veteran  law enforcement officers who serve thecriminal justice system and the community on a part time basis, under theoversight of the Sheriff.  Their combined hundreds of years of lawenforcement experience serve them well as they interact positively andprofessionally with the public, judicial personnel, and inmates alike.

Judicial (Court) Deputies are sworn deputies who performsecurity and law enforcement duties in support of the overall court operations.They screen everyone who enters the courthouse for weapons and other prohibiteditems, conduct routine perimeter and safety checks, and transport inmates toand from court.  Additionally, they maintain order in each courtroomprovide security for each judge.  They may also be required to makearrests, serve and enforce court documents and writs, and respond to andresolve any disturbances that occur in or around the courthouse.
