The Criminal Investigations Division is commanded by Captain Jason Myrick and is responsible for investigating criminal activity within Shelby County. This unit is divided into two general categories: crimes against persons and crimes against property.

Crimes Against Persons

Crimes against persons would include crimes such as:

  • Assault
  • Child Abuse
  • Homicide
  • Rape
  • Robbery
  • Sexual Assaults

Crimes Against Property

Crimes against property would include crimes such as:

  • Arson
  • Burglary
  • Computer Crimes
  • Fraud
  • Identity Theft
  • Theft
  • Vehicle Theft

The Criminal Investigations Division is also responsible for compliance with the Alabama Community Notification legislation concerning convicted sex offenders.

Hours of Operation

The normal hours of operation for the Criminal Investigations Division are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays. However, investigators are on-call 24 hours a day and the nature of the investigations they are conducting often determine their daily work schedule.
