The Tactical Response Unit (TRU) was created as a resource to effectively deal with difficult and potentially dangerous situations. The 15-man unit works on a volunteer basis under the direction of the Chief Deputy and responds as needed to incidents or situations such as hostage barricades, high-risk search warrants and/or arrest warrants, dignitary protection, specialized security for high profile trials, or any other detail requiring specialized training or skills. The unit responds to 10-30 call-outs per year and trains a minimum of eight hours each month.
