The Corrections Division of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is commanded by Captain Jay Fondren and is responsible for the Care, Custody and Control of the inmates housed in the Shelby County Correctional Facility. The Facility is a 500 bed facility which houses local, county, state, and federal inmates of both pre-trial and convicted status. The jail is staffed by 65 highly trained correctional professionals.
Line Officers and First-line Supervisors work 12-hour shifts for 24 hour coverage. Jail staff utilizes state-of-the-art video surveillance systems, court teleconferencing, telephones, intercoms, radios, computerized jail management and fingerprint systems, as well as digital imaging to manage inmate populations in one of the most sophisticated corrections facilities in the region. The podular design of the facility is often copied and is one of the most efficient in the state and nation.
Inmates are received and released 24 hours a day 365 days per year from the facility, located at 380 McDow Road in Columbiana, AL. Inmate care provided includes on-site medical, dental, and mental health services. For information on how to visit an inmate, click on the "Inmate Visitation" tab. Disciplinary action or classification may affect visitation and/or telephone privileges. The inmate Commissary and telephone systems are provided by outside vendors.

General Rules of the Shelby County Jail
- No item or substance harmful to self or others will be allowed.
- No smoking or tobacco product, whatsoever, is permitted anywhere inside the jail.
- Any inmate involved in a criminal activity inside the jail WILL be prosecuted.
- Messages will not be delivered to inmates unless it is an absolute emergency.
Personal Possessions Allowed in the Shelby County Jail
- Wedding bands are the only jewelry allowed.
- No more than 5 books, including a Bible, will be allowed in each cell.
Unless it is an emergency, all medical and dental care is administered by the jail clinic. Our healthcare provider will refer inmates with more special needs to the appropriate healthcare facility.
